【摘要】:Thepurposeofthistestmethodistoprovideanimpacttestthatcanbeperformedonsmallspecimensofplasticsofdifferentthicknesses.Thistestmethodisespeciallysuitedforobservingtheeffectsofmicrocrackscausedbyweathering,orbyexposuretosolventsorotherhostileenvironments,onthesurfaceofplasticmaterials.Itisnotmeanttobeusedasareplacementforanyexistingimpacttest,butcanbeusedtomeasureimpactoncouponsmachinedfromfinishedpartsthatcannotbetestedbythedrop-weight,Izod,orCharpymethodbecauseofshapeorthicknesslimitations.Thechip-impacttestisrunonsmall,flat,unnotchedspecimensusingastandardpendulum-impactdevice.Thetestplacestheimpactedsurfaceintensionand,fornotch-sensitivematerials,isextremelysensitivetothepresenceofsurfacemicrocracks.Thus,forplasticsthatdevelopsurfacecrackswhenexposedoutdoors,thechip-impacttestisaseveretestoftheweatheredimpactstrength.Round-robintestinghasindicatedthatmaterialsthatbreakattotalenergyvaluesoflessthan0.17joules[1.5in.-lbf]havewithin-laboratorycoefficientsofvariationofapproximately30%.Therefore,suchvaluesareconsideredoutofthenormaltestingrangeforthistest.ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Thevaluesgiveninbracketsareforinformationonly.ThereisnoISOequivalenttothistestmethod.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
